With roots dating to 1945, Spiegel Associates is a privately held, vertically integrated real estate investment, development, and management firm focused on opportunities on Long Island, the broader Tri-State Area, and South Florida.

Our firm is comprised of a diversified team of experienced real estate executives with backgrounds in finance, construction, leasing, and property management.

Our experience, entrepreneurial spirit, disciplined approach, and emphasis on collaboration allow us to execute on our strategy of creating long-term sustainable value for the communities that we serve.

1945

Born on Long Island and raised on a potato farm, entrepreneur Jerry Spiegel identifies a need for suburban housing for returning war veterans and, in 1945, starts his first homebuilding and construction company in Hicksville.

1950

By 1950, Mr. Spiegel is building one home per day.

1951

In 1951, Mr. Spiegel expands his real estate activities beyond homebuilding into retail and industrial. He builds Long Island’s first indoor shopping center, the Nassau Farmer’s Market.

1971

By 1971, Mr. Spiegel has amassed the largest concentration of commercial and industrial space under individual ownership in Long Island. The firm expands into the office market.

1996

At its 1996 Annual Real Estate Dinner, the Association for a Better Long Island awards Mr. Spiegel its first Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his vast contribution to the development of Long Island real estate.

2004

In 2004, the firm wins the “Developer of the Year” award from the Association for a Better Long Island for Aerotech Business Centre in Bohemia, NY.

2021

Most recently, in 2021, the firm wins Long Island Business News’ “Top Smart Growth Project” award for its transit-oriented multifamily development at 16 Maple Drive in Great Neck, NY.

Currently, Spiegel controls over 75 properties encompassing in excess of 2.5M square feet spanning retail, office, industrial, and multifamily.

Jeffrey Wilks

Jeffrey Wilks

Jeffrey Wilks serves as CEO and President for Spiegel Associates, one of the largest privately held owners and managers of properties in the New York area. Mr. Wilks is responsible for the strategic direction of the company, overall management of the firm, the pursuit of new acquisition and development opportunities, the firm’s financing activities, and day-to-day management of the portfolio.

Prior to joining Spiegel Associates in 1995, Mr. Wilks worked with Sandler O’Neill and Partners, an investment bank specializing in financial institutions. Prior to Sandler O’Neill, Mr. Wilks worked for over 11 years at NatWest Bank USA, primarily in the Corporate Finance Department, where he handled the Bank’s leveraged buyout and merger and acquisition transactions. Mr. Wilks’ responsibilities at NatWest Bank also included day-to-day responsibility for the Bank’s venture capital affiliates, NatWest USA Capital Corp. and NatWest Equity Corp.

Mr. Wilks currently serves on the Board of Directors of Valley National Bank, the Association for a Better Long Island, the City Parks Foundation, and the Museum at Eldridge Street. Previously, he has served on the Board of Directors of Central Synagogue as well as on the Executive Committee of the Banking and Finance Division of the UJA – Federation.

Peter Varous

Peter Varous

Peter M. Varous joined Spiegel Associates in 2000 as Chief Financial Officer. His responsibilities include review and analysis of operations and investments, overseeing the firm’s accounting policies and practices, and preparing and negotiating the firm’s debt instruments.  Prior to joining Spiegel Associates, Mr. Varous was Vice President and Controller for Rosen Associates Management Corp., a national owner, manager and developer of shopping centers. Prior positions include serving as CFO of Wengroup Companies, a real estate developer, and the Harkness Group, the broker dealer of a real estate syndicator, Eccelston Properties. Mr. Varous is a Certified Public Accountant and a Licensed Real Estate Broker. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, as well as the New York State Society of CPAs. Peter has his Bachelor degree from St. John’s University and his MBA from Rutgers University.

Harry Szenicer, Esq.

Harry Szenicer joined Spiegel Associates in 2000 and serves as General Counsel. Mr. Szenicer is responsible for a broad range of legal matters for the company, including leasing, financing, acquisition and development, and oversight and coordination with outside counsel in these areas. Prior to joining Spiegel Associates, he served as legal counsel to Lazarus Burman Associates and its successor, First Industrial Realty Inc., in real estate matters for their Long Island portfolio. Mr. Szenicer was admitted to practice in 1983 and has practiced principally in the field of real estate on Long Island since 1985. He is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School, Toronto, Canada and is admitted in the State of New York.

David Wilks

David Wilks serves as Vice President for Spiegel Associates, focusing on acquisitions, new development, asset management, and corporate strategy. Prior to joining Spiegel in 2021, Mr. Wilks worked at W5 Group, a single-family office focused on real estate investing, where he was involved in the execution of over $800 million in equity and credit investments. Prior to W5 Group, Mr. Wilks worked at Tishman Realty, a vertically-integrated real estate owner, operator, and developer, where he executed transactions with a capitalization exceeding $1 billion. Mr. Wilks graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Urban Real Estate and Development.

Cliff Sondock

Clifford Sondock serves as Director of Leasing for Spiegel Associates focusing on retail and office properties. His other responsibilities include acquisitions, new development, and the re-development of properties in the existing portfolio. Mr. Sondock joined Spiegel Associates in 1989. Prior to 1989, Mr. Sondock served as Director of Leasing/Development at First Washington Development Group in Washington, D.C., a Real Estate Investment Trust; and prior to that served as a Project Leasing Manager and Senior Leasing Executive for Weingarten Realty Inc. in Houston Texas, one of the largest shopping center REITs in the US. Mr. Sondock started his real estate career in 1980 as a loan officer with Chemical Bank’s Real Estate Division, now J.P. Morgan Chase. Mr. Sondock is a member of ICSC since 1982, Board Member of Long Island Real Estate Group, President of the Land Use Institute and member of the CATO Institute and the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. Mr. Sondock graduated from Washington & Lee University, Lexington, VA.

Paul Giossi

Paul Giossi serves as Director of Leasing for Spiegel Associates focusing on industrial and office properties. In addition to these duties, Mr. Giossi is also responsible for acquisitions, new project development, and the repositioning of current assets. Mr. Giossi joined Spiegel Associates in 2000. Prior to that, he held senior positions at several of Long Island’s prominent brokerage firms. Mr. Giossi has over 30 years of experience in commercial real estate and development.

Ron Stallone

Ron Stallone

Ronald Stallone leads the Design and Construction division at Spiegel Associates. Mr. Stallone and his team are responsible for taking new development, renovation, and tenant improvement projects from conceptual design through final construction.

Mr. Stallone brings over three decades of design and construction experience, most recently as vice president of a heavy construction core and shell building contractor in New York City. Prior to that, Mr. Stallone managed a heavy construction contracting company for 20 years where he performed over several hundred million dollars worth of infrastructure and complex building/structure construction work in the Tri-State Area. Mr. Stallone began his career at Spiegel Associates working part-time while going to college and earning his 5-year Architectural BA degree at NYIT graduating summa cum laude.

Mr. Stallone’s notable accomplishments include: leading the emergency stabilization and restoration of the Verizon Building on 140 West St. in NYC that was severely damaged by the collapse of the World Trade Center on 9/11; The Historical Renovation of the Coney Island Parachute Jump in Brooklyn, NY; and the complete building systems/infrastructure renovation of the NY Times Printing Facility in College Point, Queens.

Loretta Mastrocinque

Loretta Mastrocinque

Loretta Mastrocinque, CPM serves as Director of Property Management for Spiegel Associates overseeing operations of the firm’s portfolio which includes retail, office, industrial, and multifamily assets. Mrs. Mastrocinque is responsible for all property management, business planning, budgeting, and operational activities. Mrs. Mastrocinque joined Spiegel Associates in 1989 and has risen through the ranks to her current position which she has held since 2012. She had previously held positions within the company’s leasing, construction, and property management divisions.

About Our Founder

Jerry Spiegel

A pioneer in Long Island’s economic growth, Mr. Spiegel developed one of Long Island’s first residential communities as well as Long Island’s first indoor shopping center, the Nassau Farmer’s Market. During the 20 year period from 1960 to 1980, Mr. Spiegel was one of the most active and successful developers of commercial and industrial property on Long Island. At its 1996 Annual Real Estate Dinner, the Association for a Better Long Island awarded Mr. Spiegel its first Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his vast contribution to the development of Long Island real estate.

In addition to his real estate acumen, Mr. Spiegel was recognized for his extensive art and photography collection. Mr. Spiegel and his wife Emily became pre-eminent collectors of post-war and contemporary art and works from the Spiegel Collection have been on loan to such prestigious institutions as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, The Guggenheim Museum, The Whitney Museum, The Tate Modern, and The Royal Academy (London).

Mr. Spiegel was an active member of the World President’s Organization, Jewish Museum of New York, Aspen Institute, and the Long Island Realtors Association. He served on the Board of Directors of the Jewish Y of Plainview, State Bank of Long Island, Continental Bank, and Friends Academy. Additionally, he served as an associate trustee of North Shore Hospital and on the advisory board of Hofstra University and the Chicago Title Insurance Company. A longtime resident of the Village of Kings Point, he served as Chairman of the Village’s Architectural Review Board for many years.

Mr. Spiegel established the Jerry and Emily Spiegel Family Foundation in 1953 to facilitate the family’s philanthropic activities. Mr. and Mrs. Spiegel were passionate supporters of museums and cultural institutions in New York, Long Island, and beyond. In particular, the couple were ardent supporters of the Museum of Modern Art, where Mrs. Spiegel served as a trustee and member of the Painting and Sculpture Committee, as well as the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University Medical Center, among others.
